Which Guns are best for a semi-auto pistol and a revolver?
I intend on getting a pistol and a revolver to use both for target shooting and as well as self defense. What guns would be my best bet?
Budget for pistol- $500
Budget for revolver- $350

You ought to get plenty of heated opinion on this one. The pistol versus revolver debate has been going on for about 100 years and the end is not yet in sight.
For your price range, you probably won’t find a semi-automatic to equal a revolver in that price range.
Straight out of the box, revolvers are generally more accurate, generally have better triggers and are always more reliable, and are less ammo sensitive. And finally, pistols that are equal in quality to a good revolver generally cost considerably more
If there is enough powder to push the bullet out of the muzzle, a revolver will function. Semi-automatics require ammunition loaded in a fairly narrow power range to function reliably.
I’ve packed a handgun for over 30 years. I’ve carried Single-action Revolvers, Double-Action Revolvers, Single-Action Pistols, and Double-Action Pistols. When given the choice, I will choose a revolver every time.
For plinking and general target shooting, IMNSHO, a .22 LR revolver is the best possible choice.
For self-defense, a medium frame revolver in .357 Magnum, or .38 SPL is almost impossible to beat.
For hunting or defense against creatures large and toothy, a large bore Single-Action Revolver (.41 Magnum or larger) is the next best thing to a .45-70 Lever-Action Rifle.
These days, I only own three semi-autos and have no plans to acquire more. I own a pair of Iver Johnson TP-22 vest pocket .22’s. They are the most accurate and reliable .22 Pocket Pistols I’ve ever seen. The other is a Colt Stainless Officers’ ACP in .45 ACP.
In my opinion, you should reverse the price limits and purchase a good DA revolver in .357 Magnum, and a Ruger MkII or MkIII Standard or Target Semi-Automatic Pistol.
