Age limit on gun cleaning supplies?
First off I’m 17 and I had rifle practice this morning and when I got home I saw I was out of cleaning patches and bore solvent. So I drove down GI Joe’s (I guess it’s like Sport’s Authority or Dick’s) to buy some and I was nearly arrested. Is there some kind of age limit on gun supplies that I’m not aware of? Or is Washington (state) just way to liberal? I mean for God’s sake it was pieces of cloth.
What happened was that I put them on the counter, he asked to see my ID, when he saw I wasn’t 18, I was taken to the security office and my parnets had to come get me.
Yes it was just cloth, but you have encountered a store with a retarded policy and equally retarded employees. I ran into this trouble several times as well. I got turned down for scope mounts and a scope beacuse store policy was no sales to anyone under 21 (local gunstore).
I once went to Wal-mart when they had Federal 12 gauge shells for 2.98 a box, I had 4 friends in the car and I was picking up shotshells for us for a day of clay shooting on one of my friend’s farm. I got about 1000 rounds and the cashier flips out and brings over the manger. They demand to know why I need so much ammo, the manager claims her husband hunts and needs only a handfull of shells. I reply “well me and my friends shoot clays and we need hundreds.” The Wal-mart nazi manager tells me to leave or they are calling the police, so I went to Dunham’s and bought them for $2.99 per box and wasn’t asked a single question.
Rule of thumb is find a store that appreciates your business and deal with them. Or to avoid this patch hassle, flannel from old shirts makes excellent patches, I got to a local 2nd hand store and buy a bag full of them for $3 and they last quite a while.
